15Five's new Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) centralization page is your one-stop shop for viewing, assigning, and managing roles in 15Five. This new functionality allows leaders to customize roles to fit the needs of their organization and easily assign roles to users.

What's new in this release?

This release includes the ability to assign default or custom roles to employees and create and manage custom roles. Learn how to achieve these tasks below.

Assign roles to employees

Follow the steps below to assign default or custom roles to employees.

  1. Click on the Settings gear in the top, right-hand corner of 15Five.

  2. Select 'People' from the dropdown menu.

  3. Click on the 'Roles & Permissions' tab using the top navigation.

  4. Click the arrow to the left of the role you want to assign.

  5. Click Edit.

  6. Scroll to the "Users assigned to role" section at the bottom of the page. You can add a new person by typing their name and clicking Add. The selected user(s) will immediately be granted role permissions.Assign-Custom-Role.png
  7. If at any time you need to remove a person from a role, check the box to the left of their name and click Remove.

Create a custom role

This functionality allows you to create roles with custom permissions that fit your organization's unique needs. Follow the steps below to create a custom role.

  1. Click on the Settings gear in the top, right-hand corner of 15Five.

  2. Select 'People' from the dropdown menu.

  3. Click on the 'Roles & Permissions' tab using the top navigation.

  4. Click Add role in the "Custom roles" section.

  5. Provide a Role Name and Description. When you're done, click Save.

  6. Appoint permissions for the role. You can select from the following permissions:
    • Full billing access
    • Manage roles and permissions
    • Configure company settings
    • Configure people settings
    • Manage integrations (including those from 15Five's App Library)
  7. Assign users to the role. Once you've added the individuals you want to assign to the role, click Add.

    Upon assignment, the person's name will appear in the "Users assigned to role" section.

  8. When you're done, click Return to Roles at the bottom of the page to return to the main Roles & Permissions page.

View, edit, or delete a custom role

This section walks through how to view and manage which individuals are assigned to a custom role, edit role permissions and settings, or delete a custom role altogether.

  1. Beginning on the main Roles & Permissions page, expand the custom role using the arrow to its left.

  2. To edit or delete a custom role, click Edit.

  3. Edit the role: Once you've opened the role for editing, you can edit the Role Name, Description, Permissions, and Users assigned to the role.
  4. To delete a custom role, click Delete role at the top of the page.

  5. To manage which users are assigned to the role, scroll to the "Users assigned to role" section at the bottom of the page. You can add a new person by typing their name and clicking Add.Assign-Custom-Role.png
    Or, you can remove a person by checking the box to the left of their name and clicking Remove.

What default roles are available in this release?

The following roles are included by default in your account. The default roles (Platform Admin, HR Admin, and Billing Admin) cannot be customized. However, you can expand the default custom role (IT Admin) to fit your organization's needs.

Role Permissions
Platform Admin (formerly called Account Admin)

This default role can make changes that affect the experience for your organization. This role has all of the same permissions as 15Five's current "Account admin" role, plus the ability to be assigned granular permissions*.

Role permissions include:

  • Full billing access
  • Manage roles and permissions
  • Manage integrations (including those from 15Five's App Library)
  • Configure people settings
  • Configure company settings
HR Admin

This default role manages and runs reports containing demographic attributes and has administrative permissions in Engagement including campaign management and results access.

Billing Admin

This default role has access to handle billing-related responsibilities including subscription management, payment history, and processing.

Role permissions include:

  • Full billing access
IT Admin 

This custom role can be edited and has default permissions to manage integrations, people settings, and company settings for your organization.

Role permissions include:

  • Manage integrations (including those from 15Five's App Library)
  • Configure people settings
  • Configure company settings


*Granular permissions will be included in a future release, and allow you to customize default roles by assigning additional permissions than those granted by default.
