Assigning actions: Action owners V People shared with

There are two roles that you'll notice as you assign actions in an Action Plan: Action owners and People shared with (previously referred to as "impacted people").

  • Action owners are individuals who are responsible for completing an action. This field is required.
  • People shared with are the individuals with whom the Action Owner is expected to collaborate to complete the action. This field is optional.

For example, suppose you assign Seth the action of creating an individual objective because you want him to work with his direct report, Leah, on setting a professional development goal. You can add Leah to Seth's "People shared with" section, ensuring that Seth knows he is responsible for collaborating with Leah to create the objective.

Alternatively, if you want Seth himself to create an individual objective, you wouldn't assign anyone in the "People shared with" section. That way, he knows that he himself is responsible for creating an individual objective.

By default, if you selected the option to assign the action to Managers and direct reports, the managers of people in the Action Plan's target group are automatically selected as action owners and their direct reports are added in the "People shared with" section. However, you can...

  • Add additional people to the "People shared with section," or

  • Remove direct reports from this section using the X to the right of their name.

This flexibility helps ensure that the right people are taking action with the right people to help you reach your goals. 🎯

Now that we've gotten this logic squared away, you can continue adding actions to your Action Plan!
