👥 Account admins can change a person's direct manager. A person's current manager can change their manager if the new manager is in their hierarchy.
We understand that org changes happen and manager changes are common. When managers switch, it's easy to reflect these changes in 15Five. Direct managers are responsible for things like reviewing Check-ins, holding 1-on-1s with their direct report(s), monitoring objectives, supporting their direct report(s) in Best-Self Review® cycles, and more.
In this article, you will learn...
Note
If your company uses an integration to sync managers to 15Five, please make manager changes in your Identify Provider or HRIS software, rather than in 15Five. Otherwise, any changes you make to a person's manager will revert upon the next sync.
Change a person's direct manager
This section walks through how to change a person's manager from within their individual account settings. Only an account admin or a person's current manager can change a person's direct manager.
- Click on the Settings gear in the top, right-hand corner of 15Five.
- Select 'People' from the dropdown menu.
- You'll land on the 'Manage people' page. From here, use the search bar at the top of the screen to search for the person whose manager you want to change. Open their account settings by clicking on their name.
- Scroll down to the person's 'Account settings' section and click on the drop-down arrow below Direct Manager. Select the new direct manager from the drop-down list.
- Save your changes.
Note
15Five doesn't allow reviewer loops— that is, Person A serving as Person B's manager, and Person B simultaneously serving as Person's A's manager. It's also not possible for someone who is below a person in the reporting hierarchy to serve as that person's manager. Because of this logic, it's not possible to assign a manager to the person at the top of the reporting hierarchy.
Change direct manager in bulk for multiple people
In addition to bulk changing direct managers via bulk import, you can bulk change direct managers from the 'Manage people' page. This option only works if you're changing several people to the same manager.
- Click on the Settings gear in the top, right-hand corner of 15Five.
- Select 'People' from the dropdown menu.
- You'll land on the 'Manage people' page. From here, check the box to the left of everyone's name whose direct manager you want to update.
- Click on Actions, then select 'Change reviewer' from the dropdown menu.
- In the pop-up window that appears, use the drop-down menu to select the new direct manager.
- Click the Change reviewer button to confirm your change(s).
