Track and update an Individual Development Plan

Overview

Once an IDP is active, employees and managers can track progress, update action items, and add notes over time. IDP progress is also visible through Check-ins and 1-on-1 agendas.
 

Access and availability

👥 This article is relevant to HR admins, Managers, Individual Contributors.
📦 This feature is available in the Perform, Focus (Legacy), and Total Platform pricing packages.


View your IDPs

  1. Click Growth Studio in 15Five's main, left-hand navigation, then select Plans.
  2. Click My Plans to see all your active plans.
  3. Click on an IDP to open it.

Update action items

Action items track the specific steps in a development plan. To update an action item:

  1. Open the IDP.
  2. Click on an action item to expand it.
  3. Update the status (e.g., Not started, In progress, Complete).
  4. Add notes or comments as needed.

Update action items through Check-ins

IDP action items appear in your regular Check-in. You can update their status directly from the Check-in without opening the full plan.


View IDPs in 1-on-1s

Quick links to active IDPs appear in 1-on-1 agendas, making it easy for managers and employees to discuss development progress during their regular meetings.


Edit IDP

Action items track the specific steps in a development plan. To update an action item:

  1. Open the IDP.
  2. Click on Edit.
  3. Editing the Details, Intent, and Structure depends on permissions set for the IDPs.
  4. Click Done to save.

View your team's IDPs (Managers)

  1. Click Growth Studio in 15Five's main, left-hand navigation, then select Plans.
  2. Click My team to see all plans for your team.
  3. Click on any plan to view.

Edit IDP as a Manager

Action items track the specific steps in a development plan. To update an action item:

  1. Open the IDP.
  2. Click on Edit.
  3. Editing the Details, Intent, and Structure depends on permissions set for the IDPs.
  4. Click Done to save.

Managers can also see Editing Log, Close, or Archive the IDPs

Note

Locking IDPs, This marks the plan as complete. No further updates can be made by anyone. You can reactivate it later if needed.


View your IDPs (HR Admins)

  1. Click Growth Studio in 15Five's main, left-hand navigation, then select Plans.
  2. Click Individual Development Plans to see all IDPs.
  3. Click on any plan to view.

Edit IDP as a HR Admin

Action items track the specific steps in a development plan. To update an action item:

  1. Open the IDP.
  2. Click on Edit.
  3. Editing the Details, Intent, and Structure depends on permissions set for the IDPs.
  4. Click Done to save.

Managers can also see Editing Log, Close, or Archive the IDPs

Note

Locking IDPs, This marks the plan as complete. No further updates can be made by anyone. You can reactivate it later if needed.


View As option

HR admins and managers can now view the IDP from the employee’s perspective. This makes it easier to understand the owner’s experience and ensure everything appears as intended.
