How the industry benchmark score is determined
Each company using 15Five can select their industry from a list of 14 categories, listed in the next section of this article. These categories encompass a broad range of industries and provide a data point for comparison.
To calculate your industry benchmark, we use the Engagement Scores from all campaigns completed by organizations within that industry to determine an industry average. Your most recent Engagement Score is then compared against this average.
The list of organizations included in the benchmark is dynamic and may change as our data set and customer base evolve. Currently, we calculate the benchmark using all available data from 2018 onward.
Note
In the future, we plan to transition to a rolling 12-month benchmark, which will focus on data from the past 12 months rather than all data since 2018.
Available industry benchmark options
You can select one of the following industries to be benchmarked against:
- Construction
- Education
- Finance
- Food & Beverages
- Healthcare
- Leisure & Hospitality
- Manufacturing
- Other
- Real Estate
- Retail
- Services
- Software Development & Design
- Software & Media
- Utilities
As we collect more data, 15Five is working toward adding sub-categories to further refine these industry groupings. This will help provide even more accurate comparisons to companies that are more similar to yours.

- Click on Engagement in 15Five's main, left-hand navigation.
- You'll land on the Engagement overview page in 15Five. From here, scroll down to the "Completed campaigns" section and click View results next to the campaign you want to see industry benchmark reporting for.

This is the only area of results where industry context is added.
Note
While benchmarks can provide useful context, the true value of engagement surveys comes from leveraging results data to drive meaningful change. Leaders' key focus should be on what areas need improvement and the specific actions we can take to drive better engagement across the organization. You can achieve this by leveraging Engagement survey reporting and data and insights on the HR Outcomes Dashboard.
