Limited release: Change the frequency of Check-ins for a group

With this new release, we made it possible to change the default Check-in frequency for groups in your organization. If you don't want a group member to have the same Check-in frequency as the group, we also made it possible to set a custom Check-in frequency for them in their individual account settings. Options for Check-in frequency are weekly, every other week, or monthly.

In this article, you will learn...

Account admins can change company-wide Check-in frequency, group Check-in frequency, and individual Check-in frequency. Managers can change individual Check-in frequency for their direct reports.

Before you begin: Check-in frequency rules to keep in mind

In 15Five you can customize how frequently Check-ins are generated for an individual, a group, or for the entire organization. With that in mind, there are some rules that you should be aware of.

  • It’s best to make a frequency change at the beginning of a Check-in period, before anyone has started filling out or submitting their Check-ins. Making changes in the middle of a Check-in period can result in deleted or duplicate Check-ins. If this happens, please reach out to our Support Team at
  • If individual is not part of a group with a frequency, they will follow the company’s default Check-in frequency, or their frequency can be customized in their individual account settings.
  • If an individual is a member of only one group that has a custom Check-in frequency, their Check-in frequency will match the group's. Their Check-in frequency will still be editable within their account settings using the individual override feature. If the person is removed from the group they’re in, or if the group's custom frequency setting is removed, they will revert to the company's default Check-in frequency.
  • If a person is a member of multiple groups that have custom Check-in frequencies, they will default to the Check-in frequency of the group that's most frequent. For example: let’s say you changed the Check-in frequency for the Rev Org group to every other week, and Check-in frequency for the Customer Success group to monthly. Bartek is a member of both of these groups. That means he will have an "every other week" Check-in frequency (since that’s the group he’s in with the more frequent Check-in frequency).

Change the Check-in frequency for a group

  1. Click on the settings gear in the top, right-hand corner of 15Five.
  2. Select ‘Features’ from the dropdown menu.
  3. Click to open Check-in settings.
  4. Click the arrow next to ‘Customize frequency’ to expand options.
  5. Under ‘Group Check-in frequency’, select the name of the group(s) you want to change Check-in frequency for. If you want to change to the same frequency for multiple groups, select all of those groups. Then, choose the Check-in frequency you would like to apply to the selected group(s). Options are weekly, every other week, and monthly.
  6. If desired, click Advanced settings to lessen how frequently different Check-in sections (Pulse, Priorities, and Objective updates) appear in group members' Check-ins.
  7. If you want to change the frequency of more groups, click Add row and follow steps 5-6 again. When you’re done, save your changes.

Use individual override to set a person's Check-in frequency

  1. Click on the settings gear in the top, right-hand corner of 15Five.
  2. Select ‘People’ from the dropdown menu.
  3. Search for the name of the person you want to change Check-in frequency for, then click their name to open their account settings.
  4. Scroll down to the 'Check-in frequency' section of account settings. Then, click the box next to 'Independent frequency' and select the desired Check-in frequency.
  5. Save your changes.
This individual is now on a custom Check-in frequency that's different from that of the frequency of the group they're a member of.

  • Q: Since I manually updated employees in certain groups to have different frequencies, if I use this feature, will it override what is already there?
A: No— you will have to manually remove employees from the individual cadence so that they take the group cadence.
For example: let's say that Josh is part of the "Engineering" Group, which has a weekly Check-in frequency, and the "R&D" Group, which has a  bi-weekly cadence. In this case, we will automatically default Josh to follow the smallest cadence, "weekly". But if that wasn't the right call, and you want Josh to follow a bi-weekly cadence, you can go to Josh's profile and change his Check-in cadence. Basically, the individual setting will always rule over the group rule.
Once you make the change and set-up your group cadences, every a new member is added or removed from the group, they will automatically follow the cadence that is set at the group level.
As an alternative, if you want to remove every user from the individual cadence, you can reach out to 15Five' Support Team at and we can move everyone to the Company default (which will remove everyone's individual cadence). From there, you can set up custom group cadences.
