Passed up questions vs. passed up answers

If one of your direct reports is also a manager of people, you've likely come across passed up answers and/or passed up questions. Managers can pass up questions or answers to Check-in questions to give visibility to the work done on their team directly to their own manager, report wins, and even ask for support on how to navigate certain situations.

A passed up answer exists if the person who passed up the item has the same question on their Check-in. A passed up question exists if the person who passed up the item does not have the same question on their Check-in. To see what the process looks like from the manager's point of view, check out our Help Center article: Pass up an answer.

What is the difference between a passed up answer and passed up question?

A passed up answer exists if the person who passed up the item has the same question on their Check-in. If the question already exists on the person's Check-in, the passed up answer will show up under that question, below their own answers.

A passed up question exists if the person who passed up the item does not have the same question on their Check-in. If the question whose answer was passed up does not exist on the person's Check-in, the passed up answer and the question itself are shown under the "passed up question" dropdown. This section is at the end of the Check-in.

To view any of the passed up answers or passed up questions, click the Show link to the right side of the passed up answers/questions box. This will expand the section and show any answers or questions that were passed up for you to view.

The end goal of passed up answers/questions: further discussion between the direct manager/follower who passed the item up, and their manager.
