AI-Assisted Reviews has deliberate boundaries. Several behaviors that look like something is broken are working as intended.
Answer
15Five AI gathers evidence as Moments, drafts answers for eligible open-text questions, and gives managers a conversation guide for the review discussion. The review writer decides what is accurate and what to keep. 15Five AI does not rate, does not submit, and does not treat every piece of activity as evidence.
Key Rules
The following are expected behavior, not defects:
- 15Five AI does not select a rating. Every rating is chosen by the review writer.
- 15Five AI never submits a review.
- Peer and upward reviews do not receive AI drafting. They use the new review experience without AI drafting, Moments, or the review assistant. They can still sit in the same cycle.
- Drafting applies to open-text questions only. A template containing only ratings or scores gives 15Five AI nothing to draft.
- Lifecycle Reviews do not use AI-Assisted Reviews. They are excluded and unaffected by its settings.
- Not all activity becomes a Moment. Moments are a curated set of meaningful evidence, not a complete log. Falling inside the performance period makes activity eligible without guaranteeing it becomes a Moment.
- Company Context does not produce a citation. It provides organizational framing rather than evidence that a particular person did something.
- Prompt Instructions do not produce a citation. They shape how an answer is written rather than supplying performance evidence.
- Something said to the review assistant does not automatically become review evidence. Add it as context if it should ground the review.
- The conversation guide does not cite the original Moment. Its sources point to the submitted review answers that support the guidance.
- The conversation guide's direct inputs are the submitted self and manager reviews. Peer, upward, and additional-manager reviews are not added as separate sources.
- The conversation guide's agenda sections are fixed. Managers can add and remove talking points, but the section structure is not customizable.
- The conversation guide creates an Individual Development Plan, not a Performance Improvement Plan.
Common Misunderstanding
Disabling 15Five AI for a cycle is not the same as using the legacy review experience. Disable 15Five AI keeps the cycle on the new review experience and removes the AI-Assisted Reviews functionality. See Configure the review experience for a cycle (Admin).

- Available in the Total Platform and Perform & Goals pricing packages.
- Applies to manual review cycles. Lifecycle Reviews are excluded from AI-Assisted Reviews and are unaffected by these settings.
