Account Admins can assign a 1:1 coaching session to managers as an action within an existing Action Plan. When complete, the assigned action appears in each manager's Actions List on the selected start date.
Before You Begin
- You must have an existing Action Plan. See for instructions on creating one.
- 1:1 coaching is available as a paid add-on. Contact your 15Five Account Executive to purchase session credits.
- Only Account Admins can assign coaching sessions. Each assigned session consumes one credit when the manager schedules it.
Steps
- Go to Insights Dashboard in the left-hand navigation.
- Click the Action Plans tab.
- Click the name of the Action Plan you want to add coaching to.
- Click Add Actions.
- Select Coaching Session as the action type.
- Click Next.
- Confirm the action title reads Schedule a 1-on-1 Coaching Session (this field is not editable).
- Select a focus area for the coaching session.
- Focus areas are based on 15Five's Manager Effectiveness Competencies. - If you skip this step, Action owners can select a focus area when they schedule their session. - Available focus areas: Building Strong Teams, Demonstrating Business Acumen, Enabling Productivity, Giving and Receiving Feedback, Influencing Others, Manager Effectiveness, Managing Oneself, Setting Goals, Supporting Career Growth.
- Enter an optional action description in the description field.
- Select the start date on which the action appears on Action owners' homepages.
- Select the due date by which Action owners must schedule their session.
- Review the Action owners list.
- By default, managers of people in the Action Plan's target group are automatically selected. - To add an owner: click the search bar and type the person's name. Use All managers to assign to all managers in your organization. - To remove an owner: click the X to the right of their name.
> Note: Managers with direct reports in the Action Plan's target group are marked with a star next to their name.
- Click Next: Preview.
- Review the action summary to confirm all details are correct.
- Click Add actions.
What Success Looks Like
After clicking Add actions, the action appears in the Manage actions list with a status of Assigned. On the selected start date, each Action owner sees the coaching action in their Actions List and receives an email with the subject line "15Five Coaching Sessions Assigned."
Managers then complete the following steps:
- Add session details to a 1:1 coaching session
- Complete your coaching profile
- Attend the coaching session at the scheduled time.
If Something Goes Wrong
| Issue | Check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Action owners list is empty after opening the form | Confirm the Action Plan has a target group with members who have managers assigned | Add managers to the target group or manually add Action owners via the search bar |
| Action does not appear in the manager's Actions List on the start date | Confirm the start date is today or in the past | Edit the action and set the start date to today |
| "Add actions" button is unavailable | Confirm your account role is Account Admin | Contact your 15Five admin to verify your permissions |
| Assignment fails due to insufficient credits | Check purchased credit balance with your Account Executive | Purchase additional credits; note that the system does not block assignment — overages are billed monthly at the purchased price |
