A review writer has a draft answer, but it states something inaccurate, reads as weak or generic, or emphasizes the wrong work.
This is different from having no draft at all. If a question produced no answer, see Troubleshoot: A review writer has no AI drafts.
Before You Begin
- A first draft is a starting point, not a finished answer. Editing and refinement are part of the intended experience, so a draft that needs work is not by itself a defect.
- Applies to manual review cycles using AI-Assisted Reviews. Lifecycle Reviews are excluded from AI-Assisted Reviews and are unaffected by these settings.
Diagnose
First decide which problem you have. The fix is different for each, and treating a wording problem as an evidence problem wastes the writer's time.
- Open the Context library and inspect what is behind the answer. Read the Moments and other context the answer is drawing on.

Decide whether the problem is the evidence or the writing.
- The evidence is wrong or incomplete. The answer is built on something irrelevant, or it is missing work that should be there. Go to Fix an evidence problem.
- The evidence is right but the writing is weak. The answer draws on the correct work but is vague, poorly structured, off in tone, or buries the impact. Go to Fix a writing problem.
Fix an evidence problem
In the Context library, the writer can:
- leave out an irrelevant Moment
- add a more relevant Moment
- add a Note or a File
- pull in applicable 15Five Data
Then select Redraft so the answer accounts for the updated context.
Changing the context does not silently rewrite the existing answer. The writer chooses when to redraft, and previous versions remain available.
If the work that should be there is missing from the Context library entirely, the problem is upstream of the draft. See Troubleshoot: A review has fewer Moments than expected.
Fix a writing problem
The writer can:
- edit the answer directly
- use Improve writing
- use the review assistant to make the answer more specific
- shorten or restructure it
- make the impact clearer
- change the tone
- clarify a growth area
- rewrite the answer entirely

Validate
The answer reflects the work the writer intends to recognize, in the writer's own voice, and the writer is willing to submit it as written.
If the problem persists
If a specific factual claim about someone's performance cannot be connected to any context available in the Context library, do not assume an explanation for it. Note the answer and the context that is available, and raise it with your review admin so it can be investigated.
Not every influence on a draft produces a citation, so an uncited sentence is not automatically an unexplained claim. See Why can't I see where part of an AI draft came from?
