Use this workflow to create or update one competency directly in Competencies and Paths settings. The competency is available for use in career paths and review cycles as soon as you save it.
Before You Begin
- You must have Account admin access with Feature settings permissions.
- This feature requires the Perform or Total Platform pricing package.
Steps
- Click the Settings gear in the top-right corner of your account.
- Select Features.
- Open Competencies and Paths.
- Go to the Competencies tab.
- Click Add competency.
- Enter a name in the Competency field (75-character limit).
- Enter a description in the Competency description field.
- Select the competency scope: Company wide, a specific Group, or a specific Role.
- Click Save.
To edit an existing competency, click the competency name, update the fields, and click Save.
If Something Goes Wrong

| Save button is inactive | Name field may be empty or over 75 characters | Enter a name within the character limit |
| Competency does not appear in a review cycle | Review cycle may have started before the competency was added | Add the competency to the next cycle; competencies added after a cycle starts do not appear in that cycle |
| Scope options are missing | Your account package may not include career paths | Confirm you have the Perform or Total Platform package |
