Read and act on your Focus Brief as an employee

Your Focus Brief arrives on the day and time your admin set, weekly or biweekly, in Slack, Microsoft Teams, or email. It reflects your personal performance trajectory and surfaces what is most important for you to focus on right now, grounded in real data from 15Five and connected work tools.

Only you can see your brief. Its content is never shared with anyone else in your organization, including your manager. Sources stay visible only to people who already had access to them in the original tools. The brief is designed to help you be better at your job, not to report on you.

A privacy statement appears with every brief: in the 15Five app home in Slack and Microsoft Teams, above the actions in the brief message, and under the date in the email version.

Where to find your brief

  • Slack or Microsoft Teams β€” the brief arrives as a message from 15Five on the configured schedule
  • Email β€” if Slack and Teams are not connected, the brief is delivered via email
  • In the platform β€” select Agents in the left navigation, then Focus Briefs. Every brief ever delivered is here, filterable by date.

Your welcome message

If you are newly added to Focus Briefs, you get a one-time welcome message before your first brief. It explains what the brief will surface and states that only you can see it. It ends by asking what you want the brief to help with. Your answer is context for future briefs.

What your brief contains

Your week

A read on where you are right now β€” what you have been working toward based on your focus areas and development goals, and what the most important thing to pay attention to this week is.

The brief connects current work to longer-term growth. It can surface patterns you may not have articulated yourself β€” like a growth area from your last review that is showing up in how you are working this week.

Concrete suggestion

Each brief includes a specific, actionable suggestion for something to try this week. It is grounded in your actual work and conversations, not generic productivity advice.

Sources

Every insight in the brief traces back to a specific source. Click View Sources to open the item each insight came from, such as a Slack thread, a check-in, an objective, or a 1-on-1 in 15Five. If your company has Salesforce connected, your brief shows deal counts: deals won, deals opened, deals lost, and pipeline movement. Each count links to the deal in Salesforce.

Actions you can take from the brief

From each brief delivery in Slack or Teams:

  • Take action β€” act on individual items: edit, add to a 1-on-1 agenda, or start a conversation in Slack/Teams
  • View sources β€” verify where each insight came from
  • Add context β€” tell the brief what matters to you right now. The more context you add, the more relevant future Focus Briefs become.

Make your brief more relevant

  • Add My Context regularly: tell the brief about your current priorities, working preferences, and what you are focused on. Update it as your focus shifts. Context you add anywhere in 15Five shows in the My Context tab of Agents Hub. See Add and manage My Context.
  • Keep 15Five activity current: your brief draws most of its signal from the work tools your company has connected. Check-ins, objectives, 1-on-1 notes, and recent reviews add to it. Your recent 1-on-1s and reviews shape your focus areas.
  • Use the feedback loop β€” after each brief, add context about what was useful and what was off. The brief learns from your input.

If you are not receiving your brief

  • Confirm with your admin that you are included in the Focus Brief audience (not excluded).
  • Check that Focus Briefs are enabled in your organization.
  • Verify that your Slack or Teams account is connected and uses the same email as your 15Five account.
  • If there is not enough data from 15Five and connected integrations to generate meaningful insights, a brief will not be sent.
  • If you were out for most or all of the period your brief covers, you get a short message instead of a full brief. See Why didn't I get a full Focus Brief this week?.
