This article walks through how to enable/disable 15Five's Check-ins feature. By default, if your plan includes Check-ins, the feature is turned on for all end users. However, you can either disable the feature entirely or enable/disable it for specific groups.

How to enable/disable Check-ins πŸ› οΈ

Note

If you previously disabled the Check-ins feature and want to re-enable it, simply follow steps 1-3 below and click the Enable Check-ins button.

  1. Click on the 'Settings' gear in the top, right-hand corner of 15Five.

  3. Open Check-ins feature settings.
  4. Expand the "Who has the Check-ins feature turned on?" section and select your desired option.

  5. Use the dropdowns below to learn more about what each of these options mean:
    Enable for everyone

    Selecting this default option means that all roles will have full access to the Check-ins feature. To learn more about role-specific permissions for Check-ins, refer to the "Roles and visibility" section of our "Check-ins: Feature Overview" article.

    Limit to specific groups

    If you select this option, members of selected groups will have full access to the Check-ins feature. Refer to the "Disable for specific groups" section below to understand the impact this option will have on people who aren't members of selected groups.

    Disable for specific groups

    If you select this option, the following things will happen for members of excluded groups:

    • Members of excluded groups will not be able to submit Check-ins and won't receive Check-in notifications.
    • Group members' previously submitted Check-ins will still be visible in 15Five.
    • Members of excluded groups will still see the Check-ins feature in their main navigation so they can still access other people's Check-ins they have permission to view, but will see the note below in the "My Check-ins" tab:

    • Managers who are members of excluded groups will still be responsible for reviewing the Check-ins of any direct reports who aren't excluded from submitting Check-ins and will receive relevant notifications if enabled.
    • Managers and Account admins who are members of excluded groups will still be able to access feature reporting.
    • Account admins who are members of excluded groups will still be able to configure feature settings.
    • Excluded groups will be labeled as "Excluded from Check-ins" on the "Manage groups" page.

    Disable company-wide

    If you choose to disable Check-ins, the following things will happen:

    • The Check-ins tab will no longer appear in either the web or mobile versions of 15Five for anyone in your organization;
    • All employees will lose access to past submitted or current Check-ins;
    • Check-in reporting will no longer be available;
    • All Check-in notifications will be disabled.

How can I re-enable Check-ins if I previously disabled them?

If you disable the Check-ins feature and, at any time, want to re-enable it, simply follow steps 1-3 in this article again and then click the Enable Check-ins button.

I'm trying to lessen the workload for my team, but am not sure that I want to complete disable Check-ins. What other options do I have?

If you don't want to turn off Check-ins for the whole company, here are other options:

  • Set a vacation: If you want to turn off Check-ins for only certain people, or only temporarily, you can set a vacation. Vacations in 15Five are designed to skip Check-ins and prevent Check-in-specific notifications from being sent out. One vacation can be set for up to 6 months, and you can set up vacations back-to-back.
  • Exclude specific groups: Create a group for individuals you won't want to submit Check-ins and add that group to the "Exclude specific people" section.Checkins-Visibility-Setting.png

  • Change the frequency of Check-ins: By default, Check-ins are due weekly. However, you can change the frequency to bi-weekly or monthly. This option is available at the company-wide, group, and individual levels.

  • Make Check-ins more lightweight by assessing questions: Review the questions that are currently being asked in Check-ins and remove unnecessary questions to make them shorter. As a general rule, we recommend including a maximum of 5 questions on any one person's Check-ins.

  • Make Check-ins more lightweight by changing section frequency: Alternatively, you can change how often the Pulse, Objective updated, and Priorities sections appear in company-wide and group Check-ins to make them more lightweight.
