Before creating a manager effectiveness review cycle, configure three key settings in Best-Self Review® feature settings: review participants, direct report transparency, and the kickoff email.
Before You Begin
- You must have a manager-specific group already created.
- You must have Review admin access to Best-Self Review®.
Steps
- Click Performance in the left-hand navigation, then click Best-Self Review®.
- Click the Feature settings tab.
- Under Review participants, select Only specific people or groups.
- Select the manager-specific group from the dropdown.
- Under Direct report transparency, select your preferred visibility setting.
- Review the options in the table below before selecting.
- Under Kickoff email, toggle the kickoff email on if you want to include one.
- Edit the subject line and message body as needed.
- Save your feature settings.
Direct report transparency options
| Setting | What reviewees see |
|---|---|
| Shared | All upward responses shown verbatim; identity can be displayed or kept anonymous |
| Hidden | Manager's manager summarizes direct report responses; verbatim responses not shown to reviewee |
Sample kickoff email
Use this as a starting point when editing the kickoff email message body:
Subject: Kicking off our 15Five Manager Review
Message:
> Hi [Name]! > > We're officially kicking off our Manager Review through 15Five! The purpose of this review is to provide managers with insight into their strengths and areas for growth to become effective managers. > > We genuinely believe this review cycle will be constructive and motivating. Your honest feedback will help us understand our strengths and where we can provide additional training. If you have any questions throughout the process, reach out to us directly! > > Warmly, > Your review admins > [Review Admin Names]
If Something Goes Wrong
| Issue | Check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Manager-specific group does not appear in the participants dropdown | Confirm the group exists and has at least one member | Create or populate the group, then return to feature settings |
| Kickoff email edits are overwriting content in an individual draft cycle | Check whether that draft cycle's kickoff email was edited manually inside the cycle itself | Manually re-edit the kickoff email within the individual cycle; feature-settings changes do not override manually edited draft cycles |
| Direct report transparency setting is not visible | Confirm upward review type is enabled for your account | Contact 15Five support to verify upward review access |
