Create a manager effectiveness review cycle

This article covers the final phase of setting up a manager effectiveness review cycle: creating the cycle itself in 15Five. When complete, the new cycle appears on the Review Cycles page with a draft status.

> Note: Your organization may have renamed this feature. If you don't see Best-Self Review® in your navigation, check with your admin for the name used in your account.

Before You Begin

Steps

  1. Go to Performance > Best-Self Review® in the left-hand navigation.
  2. Click Add review cycle in the top-right corner of the Review Cycles page.
  3. Select Send Manually from the review type options.
  4. Click Next: Customize.
  5. Enter a name for the cycle in the Review name field (for example, "Q2 Manager Effectiveness Review").
  6. Click Continue.
  7. On the Review type page, select the review types to include:

- Self — managers assess their own performance - Manager — the manager's manager assesses them - Upward — direct reports assess their manager

  1. Click Continue.
  2. On the Review participants page, select Only specific people or groups.
  3. Select the manager-specific group you created from the dropdown.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. For each review type, select the appropriate question template:

- Select a 15Five default template that includes Manager Effectiveness questions, or - Select the Manager Effectiveness template you created.

  1. Click View next to any template to preview its questions before confirming.
  2. Click Continue through the remaining settings pages.
  3. On the Summary & complete page, click Save changes.

The new cycle appears on the Review Cycles page with a draft status.

Note: Kickoff email subject and body updates made in Best-Self Review® feature settings apply to all draft review cycles. Any draft cycle where the kickoff email was edited manually within the individual cycle settings will not be overwritten.

If Something Goes Wrong

Issue Check Fix
Manager-specific group does not appear in the participants dropdown Confirm the group was saved and published in Groups settings Open the group, click Save, then return to the cycle and reload the participants page
Manager Effectiveness template does not appear in the template selector Confirm the template was saved by checking the Template configuration tab Open the template, click Create Template, confirm with Looks good, then return to the cycle
Review types page does not show Upward as an option Confirm upward reviews are enabled in Best-Self Review® feature settings Go to Best-Self Review® > Feature settings, enable upward reviews, then return to the cycle
Clicking Save changes returns a validation error One or more required fields on the summary page are incomplete Review each section indicator on the Summary & complete page and complete any flagged field
