Use this article to create a performance ratings formula in 15Five. When complete, the formula appears in the Ratings formulas list on the Template configuration page and can be applied to a review cycle.
Before You Begin
- A question template must exist before you create a formula. See Understand performance review question templates for instructions.
- You must have Review Admin access. See Who are my review admins? for details.
Steps
- Go to Reviews > Template configuration.
- Click Create template.
- Select Ratings, then click Create.
- Enter a name and description in the Name & Description section.
> Note: Formula names and descriptions are visible to Review Admins only.
- Click Continue.
- In the Question template section, select the question template this formula will apply to.
> Note: Only self/manager question templates appear in the dropdown. This association cannot be changed after the formula is created.
- Click Continue.
- Set the weight for Self Reviews and Manager Reviews so the two values total 100%.
> Note: Peer and upward reviews cannot be included in performance ratings.
- Click Continue.
- Toggle each question section on or off to include or exclude it from the rating calculation.
- For any included section, click the + icon next to that section to select which opinion-scale questions within it are included.
> Note: Sections with no opinion-scale questions are automatically excluded and cannot be toggled on.
- If Objectives is toggled on, check or uncheck Objectives progress to control whether objective progress is factored into the calculation.
- Assign a percentage weight to each included section in the Add value to sections step. Weights must total 100%.
- Click Continue.
- Review the summary, then click Create.
If Something Goes Wrong
| Issue | Check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| A question template does not appear in the dropdown | Confirm the template is a self/manager type | Create or reconfigure the template as a self/manager question template before returning to this step |
| A question section cannot be toggled on | Check whether the section contains any opinion-scale questions | Add at least one opinion-scale question to that section in the question template, then return to this step |
| Section weights do not total 100% | Review the values entered for each included section | Adjust the weights so all included section values sum to exactly 100% before clicking Continue |
| The formula does not appear in the Ratings formulas list after clicking Create | Confirm you clicked Create on the Summary step, not Continue | Return to Reviews > Template configuration > Ratings formulas and verify; if absent, repeat the workflow from step 1 |
