What review cycle settings can and cannot be changed after launch?

After a review cycle launches, some settings remain editable and others are locked. Edits of any kind require the cycle's end date to be current or future — extend the cycle first if the end date has passed.

Key Rules

Settings you can edit in an active cycle:

  • Cycle name — rename at any time
  • Administrators — add review admins via global review settings
  • Cycle collaborators — add collaborators directly to the cycle
  • Participants — add or remove participants
  • Performance Ratings+ formula and rubric — editable until the first review is submitted
  • Performance Ratings+ ratings visibility — editable until the first review is submitted
  • Repeating cadence — change frequency (quarterly, semi-annually, one-time)
  • Review timelines — update due dates and deadlines (note: dates moved out more than 3 days may trigger reminder emails)
  • Calibrations — enable until the "Start sharing on" date; disable until at least one session is locked
  • Objectives — change objective types (company, group, individual) and timeframe
  • Viewing permissions — switch between basic and hierarchy visibility for review answers
  • PMA visibility — change private manager assessment visibility for participants and hierarchy
  • Peer nomination count — adjust minimum and maximum peer nominations
  • Peer nomination approval — toggle between auto-approve and always-require-manual-approval

Settings you cannot edit in an active cycle:

  • Review cycle type — the included review types (self, manager, peer, upward) are locked at launch
  • Question templates — question content cannot be changed after launch
  • Performance Ratings+ formula, rubric, and rating visibility — locked after the first review is submitted
  • Peer review transparency — cannot be changed in-app to protect reviewer psychological safety; contact Support to decrease transparency
  • Upward review transparency — cannot be changed in-app to protect reviewer psychological safety; contact Support to decrease transparency

Common Misunderstanding

Performance Ratings+ appears in both lists because editability depends on submission status. The formula, rubric, and ratings visibility are editable before any review is submitted, and locked after the first submission occurs.
