What sections can be included in a performance review question template?

A performance review question template can include up to six sections. Which sections are available depends on the review type the template is for.

Key Rules

Section Self & Manager Peer Upward
Growth & Development
Company Values
Competencies
Objectives
Private Manager Assessment
Manager Effectiveness

Section descriptions:

  • Growth & Development — Strengths-based development questions asking participants to reflect on wins, strengths, and growth since the last review.
  • Company Values — Questions asking review writers to reflect on how the participant demonstrates company values.
  • Competencies — Rating questions assessing how well a participant demonstrates company-wide, group, or role competencies.
  • Objectives — Questions asking managers and participants to reflect on objectives the participant was responsible for over a set time period.
  • Private Manager Assessment (PMA) — A set of future-focused questions answered only by managers to inform career decisions about a direct report. PMA questions are automatically included in Self & Manager templates and cannot be edited question-by-question.
  • Manager Effectiveness — Questions measuring how effectively a manager performs against set expectations. Included by default in 15Five's upward review template. This section powers the Manager Effectiveness Indicator (MEI) and Outcomes Dashboard. Individual questions cannot be edited or removed, but the entire section can be removed by cloning the template.

Common Misunderstanding

Admins cannot remove individual Manager Effectiveness questions from an upward template. To exclude the section entirely, clone the default upward template and remove the section from the clone.
