Understand Lifecycle Reviews (Automated Reviews)

Lifecycle Reviews automate performance review launches based on employee milestones — such as hire date, anniversaries, or probationary periods. Each time an employee meets a configured trigger, the system generates a new review cycle without manual admin intervention.

This feature requires access to Best-Self Review® and is available on the Perform and Total Platform packages.

Feature Structure

Lifecycle Reviews live under the Automated Reviews tab in the Reviews section of the main navigation. This tab is separate from the Manual Reviews tab.

The Automated Reviews tab contains two sections:

  • Active automatic cycles — confirmed workflows that generate new review cycles automatically when employees meet a trigger condition
  • Draft automatic cycles — workflows that have been started but not yet launched

Expanding an active workflow reveals all individual cycles generated for cohorts that met the trigger. Each cycle shows:

  • Participants
  • Start date and end date
  • Cycle status
  • Response rate

Expanding a draft workflow shows configuration details and options to edit, activate, or delete.

Cycle Statuses

Each individual cycle within a workflow moves through three statuses:

Status Meaning
Upcoming Scheduled but not yet started
Active In progress
Ended Completed

Common Issues

Key Rules

  • Automatic cycles launch only on Mondays after the trigger condition is met.
  • Available templates: 30-day, 60-day, 90-day, probationary, anniversary, and custom.
  • A workflow with Save and confirm status appears as Inactive — it will not launch cycles until resumed.
  • A workflow with Save and activate status appears as Active — it launches cycles automatically.
  • The employee and manager review experience is identical to manual reviews. Automation affects admin setup only.
  • You can pause or edit a live workflow using the three-dot menu on the workflow row.
