Group types and groups are used to view assessment results by different employee segments. There are two types of groups that can be added to the engagement dashboard: custom and system.
Note: Changes to groups and group types will be automatically applied to any scheduled or in progress assessments. If you are making changes to groups after an assessment has closed, contact firstname.lastname@example.org to apply those changes to the results.
Engagement and Organization Admins can view, add, and manage the custom groups for your organization by going to Settings > Group Management > Custom.
Add a new custom group type
Group types are the categories for groups and can include segments like department, location, etc. To add a new custom group type, click the Add New button and enter the group type name.

You can add a group to a group type from the Group Management screen or through the bulk import:

This will show all the current groups that are in that group type. Click the Add New button and enter the name to add the group.
Add a group from the Bulk Import
You can add and assign employees to groups via bulk import. List the group name in the column associated with the group type.
Assign employees to custom groups
Employees can be assigned to custom groups from the Employees List or through the bulk import tool. Learn more here.
System groups are created based on employee data provided by the organization. There are three types of system group types - generation, tenure, and hire cohort. Generation groups are created from employee's birthdates and tenure and hire cohort groups are created from employee's hire dates.
Enable System Groups
Engagement and organization admins can enable or disable system groups from Settings > Group Management > System tab. By default, tenure and generation are enabled.
Managing tenure groups
Tenure groups are created from employee's hire/start date with your organization. As employees stay with the organization they will move into different tenure bands.
Once tenure is enabled, you can manage the tenure bands that will display in assessment results. Click the Manage button next to Tenure to view and adjust the tenure bands.
- Name: The name column is how the group will be displayed in the assessment results. As an example, this can be updated to 0-1 year, 1-2 years, etc.
- Duration: The duration column is where you can set what dates will be included in that group. The duration is calculated from the end date of the assessment. The duration build on the group before it. In the example above, the first row will create a group for any employee who has a hire date between today and one year ago. The second row will create a group for any employee who has a hire date between one - two years ago.
- Range: The range column reflects the time range that will be included based on what is set in the duration column.
If you want to include additional tenure bands, you can use the Add New button to add a new group. New tenure groups will be added to the bottom of the list.
You can delete a tenure group by clicking the Delete button next to the bottom group.
Managing Hire Cohort groups
Hire Cohort groups are calculated from the employee's hire/start date with your organization. Hire Cohort groups are created from specific date ranges. Unlike tenure groups, employees will stay in the same hire cohort group from assessment to assessment.
Once hire cohort is enabled, you can manage the hire cohort bands that will display in assessment results. Click the Manage button next to Hire Cohort to view and adjust.
Click the Add New button to create a hire cohort group. To adjust the date ranges for the hire cohort group, adjust the End Date to reflect the end of the timeframe for the group. Next, select the Start Date for the group. You can then add a label for the group in the Name column i.e. 2020-2021. You can delete a hire cohort group by clicking on the trashcan icon next to the row.
View Generation Groups
Generation groups are calculated from employee's birthdates. You can view the dates associated with each generation here. Once generation has been enabled for your organization, you can view how many employees are in each generation by clicking the View button.
