The Edit weights modal blocks saving when the total weight distribution does not equal exactly 100%. Two error states trigger this block: "Exceeds limit by _%" (total above 100%) and "_% remaining" (total below 100%). Resolve either error using the options below, then save.
Before You Begin
The Edit weights modal must be open. Access it by clicking the Weight: __% badge on any Key Result or child Objective, or by selecting Edit weights from the gear icon on the objective.
Fix an "Exceeds limit by __%" error
Use one of the following four options to bring the total down to 100%.
Option A — Remove excess evenly across all Key Results
- Locate the "Exceeds limit by __%" message in the modal.
- Click Remove excess below the error message.
Option B — Remove excess from a single Key Result
- Identify a Key Result whose current weight is greater than or equal to the excess amount.
- Click the –__% control next to that Key Result.
Option C — Manually adjust weights
- Edit individual Key Result weight fields directly.
- Watch the running total update after each change.
- Continue adjusting until the total reaches exactly 100%.
Option D — Reset to equal distribution
- Click Reset to equal distribution in the lower-left corner of the modal.
Fix a "__% remaining" error
Use one of the following four options to bring the total up to 100%.
Option A — Distribute remaining weight evenly across all Key Results
- Locate the "__% remaining" message in the modal.
- Click Distribute remaining below the error message.
Option B — Add remaining weight to a single Key Result
- Identify the Key Result that absorbs the remainder.
- Click the +__% control next to that Key Result.
Option C — Manually adjust weights
- Edit individual Key Result weight fields directly.
- Watch the running total update after each change.
- Continue adjusting until the total reaches exactly 100%.
Option D — Reset to equal distribution
- Click Reset to equal distribution in the lower-left corner of the modal.
Save the distribution
- Confirm the running total displays exactly 100% with no error message.
- Click Save.
If Something Goes Wrong
