The Manager Effectiveness Indicator (MEI) tile on the HR Outcomes Dashboard shows how managers perform across key leadership competencies. It draws from three data sources — engagement surveys, review cycles, and Check-ins — depending on your MEI configuration.
Before You Begin
- Confirm you have access to the HR Outcomes Dashboard.
- Confirm which MEI sub-factors your organization has enabled. Each sub-factor corresponds to a different data source. Your MEI configuration determines which steps below apply.
- This feature is available on the Perform and Total Platform pricing packages.
Steps
Option 1: Run an engagement campaign with the Manager Effectiveness Survey
Use this option if your MEI configuration includes the Manager Effectiveness Survey sub-factor.
- Navigate to Engage in the left sidebar.
- Click Campaigns, then click Create campaign.
- Select your survey participants and campaign schedule.
- Under survey selection, add the Manager Effectiveness Survey.
- Publish and launch the campaign.
The Manager Effectiveness Survey contains 8 statements that collect anonymous feedback on manager effectiveness competencies. Responses populate the MEI tile once the campaign closes.
> Recommended: Include the Core Engage Survey in the same campaign. This populates both the Engagement tile and the MEI tile in one campaign run.
Option 2: Hold a review cycle with the Manager Effectiveness question template
Use this option if your MEI configuration includes the Review sub-factor.
- Navigate to Perform in the left sidebar.
- Click Reviews, then click Create review cycle.
- Select Manager review as a review type.
- In the question template step, select or build a template that includes Manager Effectiveness competency questions.
- Complete the remaining cycle setup steps and launch the cycle.
Manager review responses tied to Manager Effectiveness competencies populate the MEI tile after the cycle closes and results are processed.
Option 3: Enable and use Check-ins
Use this option if your MEI configuration includes the Check-ins sub-factor.
- Navigate to Admin Settings.
- Click Check-ins.
- Confirm Check-ins are enabled for your organization.
- Communicate to managers and direct reports that Check-in completion directly feeds the MEI.
- Monitor adoption using the Pulse Dashboard to confirm employees are submitting Check-ins regularly.
The MEI uses the most recent Pulse score submitted by active employees within the past 31 days. Consistent Check-in usage is required to keep this data current.
If Something Goes Wrong
| Issue | Check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| MEI tile shows no data after a campaign | Confirm the campaign included the Manager Effectiveness Survey, not only the Core Engage Survey | Re-run a campaign with the Manager Effectiveness Survey added |
| MEI tile shows no data after a review cycle | Confirm the question template included Manager Effectiveness competency questions | Edit the template in the next cycle or create a new cycle with the correct template |
| Check-ins data not populating MEI | Confirm the Check-ins sub-factor is enabled in your MEI configuration | Navigate to MEI settings and enable the Check-ins sub-factor |
| MEI tile partially populated | One or more configured sub-factors have no data yet | Complete the steps for each enabled sub-factor |
Not Covered Here
This article does not cover how to configure which sub-factors are included in your MEI or how to interpret MEI scores once the tile is populated.
