The Talent Matrix is a 9-box grid in Growth Studio's Explore section that visualizes talent distribution based on review cycle ratings. It is always available and does not require a cycle to be active.
Available in: Perform and Total Platform packages.
Feature Structure
The Talent Matrix plots employees across a 3x3 grid using their most recent review cycle ratings.
Role-Based Access
| Role | Access |
|---|---|
| HR / Account Admin | Org-wide view of all employees |
| Manager | View of employees they managed during the review cycle that produced the ratings. This is based on the manager assignment within the review cycle, not the current reporting hierarchy. |
| Employee | No access |
Available Actions
From the Talent Matrix, authorized users can:
- View an employee's active development and improvement plans.
- Create IDPs or PIPs directly from an employee's position on the grid.
- View an employee's performance history across review cycles.
- Initiate succession planning for employees in critical roles.
- Select multiple employees in a single box to create plans in bulk.
What happens when an employee changes managers
The Talent Matrix uses the manager assigned within the review cycle, not the current reporting hierarchy. When an employee is reassigned to a new manager after a review cycle has completed:
- The new manager will not see the employee in the Talent Matrix, because the new manager was not the assigned manager during the review cycle that produced the ratings.
- The previous manager retains visibility of the employee's Talent Matrix placement from cycles they managed.
- The new manager will see the employee in the Talent Matrix after the next review cycle in which they are the assigned manager.
- HR and Account Admins always see all employees regardless of manager changes.
If a new manager needs immediate access to their team's Talent Matrix data, an HR or Account Admin can view and share the information.
Key Rules
- Employees cannot access the Talent Matrix.
- Ratings displayed come from the most recent completed review cycle.
- Manager visibility is scoped to the review cycle assignment, not the current reporting hierarchy. A manager sees only employees they managed during the cycle that produced the ratings.
- Bulk plan creation is available when selecting multiple employees within a single box.
