Use the Talent Matrix in review results

Review admins and cycle collaborators use the Talent Matrix to plot participants across two dimensions — such as performance rating and manager assessment responses — in a 9-box grid. When complete, every participant with data for both selected axes appears in the matrix.

Note: Your organization may have renamed this feature. If you don't see "Performance Reviews" in your navigation, check with your admin for the name used in your account.

Not covered here: Using the Talent Matrix inside a calibration session. See Clone, edit, or delete a calibration session for instructions on that workflow.

Before You Begin

  • Your account must have access to performance review results. This feature is available on the Perform and Total Platform packages.
  • At least one manager review must be submitted and results shared with a participant before the Talent Matrix appears.
  • The manager review question template must include Yes/No or Opinion Scale questions to use as axes.
  • Opinion Scale question answers must be ordered left-to-right from low to high. See Understand performance review question templates if you need to verify question ordering.

Steps

  1. Go to Reviews in the left-hand navigation.
  2. Click the relevant review cycle.
  3. Click the Company's Results tab.
  4. Click the Summary tab, then scroll down to the Talent Matrix section.
  5. Select a question or metric from the X-axis dropdown.
  6. Select a question or metric from the Y-axis dropdown.

- Available options include Opinion Scale questions, Yes/No questions, and Performance Ratings.

  1. Review the populated matrix.

> Note: Participants appear only if their manager answered and shared results for both selected questions. Hover over # Participants at the bottom of the matrix to see who is missing and why.

  1. To filter the matrix, click the People filter and select a group.

- Options include direct reports, your hierarchy, specific individuals, groups, or manager groups.

  1. To filter by demographic attribute, click the Demographics & People Data filter and select a segment.

- Available attributes: Age, Ethnicity, Gender, Race, or Salary.

  1. To save your filter selections for reuse, click Presets > Save Current as Preset.

- See Create a saved filter preset in a performance review cycle for details.

  1. To expand the matrix to full width, click Focus mode in the top-right corner of the Talent Matrix.
  2. To export results, click Download in the top-right corner of the Talent Matrix.

- The export includes all participants, their manager's answers for both selected questions, the box each participant falls into, and additional data.

No questions appear in the X-axis or Y-axis dropdowns Confirm the question template includes at least one Yes/No or Opinion Scale question Add the required question type to the template — see Understand performance review question templates
