This article orients admins to the four Check-in visibility models available in 15Five and links to setup instructions for each.
Feature Structure
15Five controls Check-in visibility through two mechanisms: the manager hierarchy (always active) and group permissions (configurable). The four visibility patterns built on these mechanisms are:
| Visibility pattern | How it works | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Traditional hierarchy | Visibility flows up the direct-manager chain. Each manager sees their direct reports and all reports below them. | Default for most organizations. No setup required. |
| Total organizational transparency | All employees can see all Check-ins company-wide. Configured via a single all-company group with Group viewing and Group drill-down enabled. | Flat or highly transparent organizations. |
| Group-level transparency | Members of a specific group can see each other's Check-ins. Configured per group. | Team or department transparency without full company access. |
| Executive-level transparency | A named leadership group gains mutual visibility into members' Check-ins and their reports' Check-ins via drill-down. | Organizations that want top-level leaders to have cross-team visibility. |
| Matrix reporting | A direct manager is assigned in the hierarchy. A secondary manager follows the person's Check-ins. | Organizations where a person reports to two managers. |
Key Rules
- The traditional hierarchy is always active and cannot be disabled. Drill-down visibility always flows through the manager chain.
- Account admins do not have visibility into all Check-ins unless they are at the top of the hierarchy. To grant company-wide visibility to a specific person, contact 15Five Support and request Global Viewer permissions.
- If a person is outside someone's hierarchy and not in a shared group, they can request to follow that person's Check-ins. The Check-in owner or their manager must approve the request.
- Group viewing and Group drill-down must both be enabled for a group to grant lateral Check-in visibility to its members.
