Account admins can set a new password for an employee or require the employee to set their own password on next login. Both actions are performed from the employee's account settings page.
Before You Begin
- Password login must be enabled for your organization. If your organization uses SSO exclusively, password changes must be made in your Identity Provider (IdP). See Manage employee access and accounts with SSO enabled for instructions.
- You must have Manage people access.
Steps
- Go to People in the left-hand navigation.
- Use the search bar or filters to find the employee.
- Click the employee's name to open their account settings.
- Click Change next to the Password field.
> This path lets you set a new password on the employee's behalf. The employee can log in immediately using the new password.
- Type the new password in the field provided.
- Click Change password.
To require the employee to set their own password instead:
- Check the box next to Require password change.
> The employee will be prompted to create a new password the next time they log in. You do not set the password yourself.
- Click Save.
What success looks like: A confirmation message appears and the Password field updates to reflect the change.
If Something Goes Wrong
| Issue | Check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Password field is not visible or Change is disabled | Confirm your organization has password login enabled — go to Admin > Account > Security and check the login method setting | If SSO-only login is enabled, password changes must be made in your IdP. See Manage employee access and accounts with SSO enabled. |
| Change password button does not respond | Confirm the new password meets the minimum requirements shown below the field | Re-enter a password that meets all listed requirements and click Change password again. |
| Employee reports they were not prompted to change their password | Confirm you checked Require password change before saving | Return to the employee's account settings, check Require password change, and click Save. |
