The Start Date field in 15Five lets admins add people to the account now and delay their access — and optionally their invitation email — until a specified future date.
Feature Structure
A start date is the date a person gains access to 15Five. If you choose to send an automatic invite email, the invitation is sent on that same date. The start date does not need to match the employee's company hire date.
New people added with a start date appear in the Inactive tab of the Manage People page under one of two states:
- Pending invitations — an invite email has been sent or is scheduled to send on the start date
- Created people — no invite email is scheduled; the person must be invited manually
Start dates can be set through three addition methods: HRIS integration, bulk CSV import, or adding a person one-off.

Key Rules
- Start dates can only be set when a person is first added to 15Five. They cannot be added retroactively.
- Once a start date is set, it cannot be removed — only updated to a different future date.
- A start date cannot be updated after the person has already gained access (i.e., after the start date has passed).
- Invite emails send at 8 AM in the employee's timezone on their start date.
- Invitations expire 30 days after being sent.
- The SCIM attribute for start date is
startDate. All SCIM configuration lives in the identity provider (IdP). - The
start_datecolumn is supported for all integrations connected via the 15Five HRIS Connector.
