Why can't I edit my submitted self review?

The Edit review button is missing or replaced with a different option. Three distinct states can cause this, each with a different resolution path.

Diagnose

Check 1: Manager has already seen your review → Open your review. If you see Request to edit review instead of Edit review, your manager has viewed the submission. → If true: go to Fix 1. → If not: continue to Check 2.

Check 2: Review results have been shared with you → Check whether you can see the full review results on your profile. If results are visible, they have been shared. → If true: go to Fix 2. → If not: continue to Check 3.

Check 3: Review cycle is locked → Ask a review admin or cycle collaborator whether the cycle has been locked. → If true: go to Fix 3. → If not: escalate — see below.

Fix

Fix 1 — Manager has already seen your review

  1. Click Request to edit review on your self review page.
  2. Wait for your manager to approve the request.
  3. Watch for an in-app notification confirming approval.
  4. Return to your review and click Edit review.

Fix 2 — Results have been shared with you

  1. Ask your manager to unshare your review results.
  2. After your manager confirms results are unshared, open your review and make edits.
  3. Ask your manager to re-share review results.

Fix 3 — Review cycle is locked

  1. Ask a review admin or cycle collaborator to unlock the review cycle.
  2. After the cycle is unlocked, return to your review.
  3. Confirm Edit review now appears in the top right corner.

What Resolution Looks Like

The Edit review button appears in the top right corner of your self review page. You can open the review, make changes, and click Resubmit.

If It Still Fails

Contact your HR admin or 15Five support. Provide the following:

  • Name of the review cycle
  • Whether the cycle is still open or past its end date
  • Screenshot of the review page showing the missing edit option
  • Confirmation of which check applied (manager viewed / results shared / cycle locked)

Not Covered Here

This article does not cover how to make edits once the Edit review button is accessible. For editing steps, see Edit your submitted self review in a performance review cycle.
