Analyze competency assessment results in a review cycle

Use the Competency Assessment tab to view how participants were rated across key skills in a review cycle. When complete, you will have filtered results, switched between Grid and Graph views, and optionally downloaded the full competency results file.

> Note: Your organization may have renamed this feature. If you don't see "Best-Self Review®" in your navigation, check with your admin for the name used in your account.

Who can use this:

  • Review admins and cycle collaborators can view competency results for all participants.
  • Managers can view competency results for their direct reports.
  • Skip-level managers can view results for their reporting hierarchy if hierarchy visibility is enabled in feature settings.

Required access: Best-Self Review® Reporting. Available on Perform and Total Platform packages.

Before You Begin

  • The review cycle must include at least one competency question. If no competencies were configured, the Competency Assessment tab does not appear.
  • Results must be available for at least one participant. See Finalize a participant's review results for instructions.

Steps

  1. Click Reviews in the left-hand navigation.
  2. Click the relevant review cycle name.
  3. Click Company's Results (review admins and collaborators) or Team's Results (managers).
  4. Click the Competency Assessment tab in the top navigation.
  5. Apply filters to narrow results by cohort:

- Use the People filter to select direct reports, a reporting hierarchy, specific individuals, groups, or manager groups. - Use the Career Path Role filter to narrow by job title. > Note: The Career Path Role dropdown only shows roles added to 15Five. See Manage job information for instructions.

  1. Review the Top competencies section (three highest-scoring skills) and Top opportunities section (three lowest-scoring skills).

> Note: These sections reflect the people selected in the filter at the top of the page.

  1. Scroll to the Competency Results table.
  2. Toggle the Self, Manager, and Peer checkboxes at the top of the table to include or exclude specific review types.
  3. Use the competency group dropdown to filter the competency list:

- All competency behaviors — full list - Top competencies — highest-scoring - Top opportunities — lowest-scoring - Most aligned — smallest perception gap between review sources - Least aligned — largest perception gap

  1. Select a view using the icon in the top-right corner of the Competency Results table.

Grid View and Graph View

Grid View (default)

Grid view displays a color-coded table showing how competency ratings are distributed across participants.

  • The left column lists competencies assessed in the cycle. These may include company-wide, group, role-specific, and manager effectiveness competencies.
  • Each column to the right shows the distribution of ratings from lowest to highest.
  • Each cell shows the percentage of participants whose average rating falls at that scale point. Hover over a cell to see the rating label and participant count.

Cell color key:

  • Blue — ratings that participants received
  • White — available ratings that no participants received
  • Gray — rating options not included in the scale for that competency

Graph View

Graph view plots self, manager, and peer ratings on a radar chart, showing up to 12 competencies at a time.

  • Gold line — self review ratings
  • Purple line — manager review ratings
  • Red line — peer review ratings
  • Each point represents the average score for that competency from that reviewer group. Hover over a point to see the exact rating and reviewer type.

> Note: Graph view supports a maximum of 12 competencies. If your cycle includes more than 12, apply the competency group filter to reduce the number shown. See for more detail.

Download Competency Results

The competency results download includes how each participant was rated across all competency questions for all review types (self, manager, additional manager, peer, and upward).

  1. Click Download at the top of the Competency Results table.

> Note: Active page filters do not affect the downloaded file. The download always includes all participants.

Columns included in the download:

Employee email, First name, Last name, Job title, Active groups, Employee ID, Manager first name, Manager last name, Manager email, Review type, Respondent first name, Respondent last name, Qualitative competency rating (per competency), Quantitative competency rating (per competency), Normalized average competency score.

> Note: A "–" in the Normalized average competency score column means only one review was submitted for that participant — an average cannot be calculated from a single rating.
