Smart Groups automatically create and maintain manager-specific groups based on direct report assignments in 15Five. As managers gain or lose direct reports, group membership updates without manual intervention.
Available on Perform, Focus, and Total Platform packages. Requires account admin access to enable and configure.
Feature Structure
Group type: Smart Groups appear as their own group type on the Manage groups page, separate from manually created groups.
Naming convention: Every Smart Group is named [First and Last Name]'s Team. Names are auto-generated and cannot be changed.
Membership: Membership is populated automatically from manager-to-direct-report assignments. Membership cannot be customized to include people outside the assigned manager's direct reports.
Visibility:
- Managers see only their own Smart Group.
- Account admins see all Smart Groups only when Show all Smart Groups to admins is enabled in Smart Group configuration settings.
Limitations: Smart Groups cannot be used for group-type Objectives.

Key Rules
- Smart Group names cannot be edited by anyone — admins or managers.
- Managers cannot manually add or remove members. Membership follows the manager hierarchy only.
- Admins must enable Show all Smart Groups to admins to view or manage Smart Groups from the Manage groups page.
- The @mention in High Fives option is off by default. Enable it in Smart Group configuration settings to allow company-wide recognition of Smart Groups.
- Disabling Smart Groups removes them from all in-app surfaces.
