Understand the Engagement Report

The Engagement Report shows how engagement scores have changed over time and how results vary across teams and demographics. It builds on the top-level metrics in the Summary Report by adding trend data, flow visualization, and group-level breakdowns.

Required access: Engagement campaign results visibility. Available in the Engage, Total Platform, and Legacy Perform pricing packages.

Note: Reports show company-wide results by default. Users with Full or Limited + Groups results visibility can filter by segment based on their assigned access.

This article does not cover the Summary Report, Statements Report, eNPS Report, or Feedback Report. See Analyze Engagement Results Using the Statements Report and eNPS Report — How to Interpret Your Results for those reports.

Feature Structure

The Engagement Report contains four sections:

  • General Engagement Metrics — top-level scores and benchmarks
  • Engagement Trend — score changes across your four most recent campaigns
  • Engagement Flow — movement of employees between engagement levels across campaigns
  • Engagement Breakdown — group- and demographic-level comparisons (requires Full or Limited + Groups visibility)

General Engagement Metrics

The top of the Engagement Report displays the following metrics. These same metrics appear in the Summary Report.

  • Engagement Score — a composite score based on seven core survey statements across the Force, Feeling, and Focus dimensions
  • Engagement Level — a categorized label (Disengaged through Extremely Engaged) based on where your score falls in the 15Five percentile dataset
  • Engagement Comparison — the change in your engagement score relative to the previous survey
  • Percentile — how your score ranks against other organizations in the 15Five benchmark over the past 12 months
  • Participation Rate — the percentage of employees who completed the survey

Engagement Trend

The Engagement Trend chart tracks your engagement score across your four most recent campaigns.

  • The X-axis shows campaign dates; the Y-axis shows the engagement score.
  • Each dot represents one campaign. Dot color reflects the engagement level for that campaign.
  • Hover over a dot to see the score, campaign name, timeframe, and participation rate.
  • Apply filters to compare specific cohorts against the overall organizational average.

Engagement Flow

The Engagement Flow chart shows how employees moved between engagement levels from one campaign to the next.

  • The X-axis shows campaign dates; the Y-axis shows the number of participants.
  • Each bar is segmented by engagement level: Disengaged, Somewhat Engaged, Moderately Engaged, Highly Engaged, or Extremely Engaged. Gray segments represent non-respondents.
  • Hover over an engagement level to see the employee count in that category. Enable Show percentage in the top-right corner to view percentages instead.
  • Hover over a bar segment to see how employees moved into or out of that engagement level from the previous campaign, and where they moved in the subsequent campaign.
Note: Lines extending into the chart without connecting to a prior engagement level represent new participants — employees not included in the earlier campaign (for example, new hires). Lines extending out of the chart without connecting to a subsequent campaign represent exits — employees who left the organization or were not included in the following campaign.

Flow lines between campaigns are hidden when the number of new or exiting participants falls below your organization's confidentiality threshold (3–5 people). When hidden, a message identifies the relevant date range.

Engagement Breakdown

The Engagement Breakdown compares results across teams or demographic segments. This section is available to users with Full or Limited + Groups results visibility.

Use the Compare by filter to select a Group Type (such as department, location, or manager) or a demographic attribute (such as gender, race, or ethnicity). The top row shows data for all participants for reference.

For each group, the table shows:

  • Score — engagement score
  • Change — score change since the last campaign
  • Response rate — percentage of survey respondents in that group
  • Percentile — ranking compared to other organizations in the 15Five dataset
  • Engagement distribution — spread of engagement levels within the group

Expand any group row to view responses to the seven core statements used to calculate the Engagement Score. Each statement shows the group's average response, its percentile rank in the 15Five dataset, and a visual distribution from unfavorable to favorable.

When one or more groups fall below your organization's confidentiality threshold, their data is hidden to protect employee anonymity.

Key Rules

  • The Engagement Report is available in the Engage, Total Platform, and Legacy Perform pricing packages.
  • Group-level data in the Engagement Breakdown requires Full or Limited + Groups results visibility.
  • Data below your organization's confidentiality threshold (3–5 people) is hidden in both the Engagement Breakdown and Engagement Flow sections.
  • The Engagement Score is calculated from exactly seven core statements on a 0–4 numeric scale.
  • The Engagement Trend displays your four most recent campaigns only.
