Analyze review results using the Questions & Answers tab

The Questions & Answers tab in review cycle results lets admins, collaborators, and managers read and download every answer submitted to each review question. Answers become visible as soon as reviews are submitted and results are released.

> Note: Your organization may have renamed this feature. If you don't see "Best-Self Review®" in your navigation, check with your admin for the name used in your account.

Before You Begin

  • You must have a manager, skip-level manager, review admin, or cycle collaborator role in the review cycle. See Roles in a performance review cycle for details.
  • Results must be released before answers appear. See .

Visibility by role

  • Direct managers see results for their direct reports only.
  • Skip-level managers see results for their full hierarchy if hierarchy visibility is enabled in the cycle.
  • Review admins and cycle collaborators see results for all participants.

Access the Questions & Answers tab

  1. Go to Reviews in the left navigation.
  2. Click the name of the review cycle you want to analyze.
  3. Click Team's Results (managers and skip-level managers) or Company's Results (review admins and cycle collaborators).
  4. Click the Questions & Answers tab.

Download Questions & Answers reports

Two download types are available from this tab.

Download What it includes How to trigger
All Questions & Answers — team CSV/XLSX All questions, competencies, and answers for participants matching current filters; includes review type, competency score (1–5), and all columns listed below Click Download in the top-right corner of the page, then select the team CSV or XLSX option
All Questions & Answers — participants CSV/XLSX Same data as above, compressed into one file per participant Click Download in the top-right corner, then select the participants CSV or XLSX option

Columns included in all downloads: Employee email, First name, Last name, Is group admin for, Manager first name, Manager last name, Respondent first name, Respondent last name, Review type, Question, Question visibility, Question group names, Answer, Optional text answer, Date submitted, Review cycle name, Section type, Competency, Competency score, Company value, Rating.

Use the Questions & Answers tab

Filter questions by section

  1. Click the Review section dropdown above the results table.
  2. Select a question template section: Growth & Development, Company Values, Objectives, or Private Manager Assessment.

- The table updates immediately to show only questions from the selected section. - If the review admin renamed a section, the custom name appears in the dropdown.

Find and view answers for a question

  1. In the Team/Company Results: Questions table, type a keyword into the search bar at the top-right of the table.

- The table filters in real time. The search returns all questions containing your keyword.

  1. Click # answers below a question to open the Question details page.

- Alternatively, click ... to the right of the question and select View all answers.

On the Question details page

  1. Type a participant's name in the search bar to see their response to the question.
  2. Review the Review stats section (upper-left) to see how many writers of each review type answered the question and the total answer count.
  3. Review the Review details section to see the cycle start and end dates and the date of the most recent response.
  4. Click Download in the top-right corner to export answers for this question as a CSV or XLSX.

What success looks like

The Team/Company Results: Questions table is populated with questions from the cycle. Clicking # answers opens the Question details page showing individual responses. A download completes when a CSV or XLSX file appears in your browser's download location.

If Something Goes Wrong

Issue Check Fix
Questions & Answers tab is not visible Confirm you have a manager, skip-level manager, review admin, or collaborator role in this cycle Ask a review admin to verify your role. See Add or remove Review administrators or Add or remove cycle collaborators.
No answers appear in the table Confirm results have been released and that at least one review has been submitted Ask the review admin to confirm release status. See Share review results with a review cycle participant.
Download does not complete Check whether a filter is applied that returns zero participants Clear all filters, then attempt the download again.
Review section filter shows no options Confirm the question template includes sections beyond the default Ask the review admin to review the question template. See Understand performance review question templates.
Skip-level results are not visible Confirm hierarchy visibility is enabled in the review cycle Ask the review admin to enable hierarchy visibility. See Manager roles and visibility in performance review cycles.
